More than twenty-five years ago Tom Seavey moved onto a piece of land, in Henniker, NH, with no power or water, and built a home from the trees off the land. From his hand crafted log home, Tom has followed his passions and pursued a career based upon many traditional skills. Tom has worked as a professional singer, song writer, leather worker, wood worker and master wood finisher.

In 1992 Tom acquired a 1937 Old Town 18' Guide Model in need of much TLC. After carefully disassembling the rails, canvas and decks, Tom built the ole '37 back to a classic craft. This was the start of it all.

Thanks to Tom's brother-in-law Ross Morgan, the contact was made to stretch a new canvas at Strong's Canoe Yard, in Craftsbury Common, VT. Kind of a kin to a great barn raising, the canvassing experience was one of those genuine moments that one doesn't easily forget.

Horace Strong, who has been so instrumental in keeping wood canvas canoe building alive, had a beautifully efficient shop, dedicated to canoe building, and Tom having experienced this great place, knew that he had to add this tradition to his repertoire
